It is Time to Relocate Again

It is September 29th, 2023 and we are back in Mesa, AZ. We were under the impression we had at least a couple of weeks to get ourselves together since Robert had just been released from the hospital with Salmonella Poisoning. Now we are 48 hours in and we find out we have less than hours to again relocate. We are frantic and at a loss for what we are to do. After making a couple of phone calls we have a destination.

How Will We Get There

Corpus Christi, TX is the destination with roughly 1200 miles to go how do we get there? We get on several different travel apps and we are finding these tickets ranging from $500 to $ 1,000 of dollars. Flights, trains, and buses are astronomical when booking last minute. I found this App called Kiwi and we were able to find 2 tickets or just over $300 for our flight to Houston and then we found 2 bus tickets from Houston to Corpus for $60. This was it so I booked everything and we were leaving the following day the 31st of August and arriving mid-day on the first of October.

The Departure

So it is time to hit the road and due to funds, we could not bring more than a backpack each which means all of our business equipment and clothing in 2 single backpacks. This was gonna be fun. Although the two of us were more than accustomed to leaving our entire lives behind we felt like we had gotten somewhere just to realize it was starting all over again for the 20th time. This time though we swore would be the last. As we gathered what we could went to sleep and woke the next day ready to go on this new adventure. We booked our ride to the airport and off we went.

We Realized We Could Have Done Things Different

As we were heading to the airport we realized that had we just taken a moment to breathe and think we could have saved more. When we became partners with RRR247 we joined a membership with Savings Highway Global membership that allows you members-only discounts on TRAVEL. Had we booked our travel we could have saved at least $100 on our flight which could have saved us from the next 24 hours of complete hell we were about to embark on.

Arriving in Houston, TX

We arrived in Houston, TX. at 1 am and we had a bus scheduled from a Greyhound at 9 am. Due to rushing our bookings I didn’t realize that we scheduled our bus from a Greyhound on the south side of Houston and our flight arrived on the north side and we had no transportation. So we decided the cheapest way is to go to the Greyhound via the city bus. The City Bus at 1 am in Houston TX alone is scary but to find that we road to the inner city swarmed with homeless, people sitting outside smoking crack in the wide open. People sleeping on the ground in the middle of the sidewalk. People nodding off from fentanyl and not a person willing to point us in the right direction.

We Are Now At One Anothers Throat

Our frustration and lack of knowledge in a whole new place seemingly dangerous we are not seeing eye to eye. As Rob goes one way asking for help my phone dies and I can not see him any longer. I remember the picture of the map I had seen in my mind and I just started in that direction. We find each other and decide we need to call an Uber.

With the only phone we have with a battery that is at 10% we call an Uber to arrive at the Greyhound. Thinking we have made it to the destination and now it’s just the waiting game. We decided to walk to the gas station behind the Greyhound. That was a scary adventure in itself more homeless doing drugs passed out on the sidewalks and stopping us for drugs. We make it back to the greyhound unscathed and we find out we are not at the right hub.

Off To The Next Greyhound

We called for another Uber mind you we only left Mesa with $75. So this Uber driver not only takes us to an actual city bus stop (because that is the address I gave him) but he leaves us there outside with no cell phone battery. We have no clue as to where we are and he had not a problem with it. Also no advice as to where we were actually supposed to be. We walk to the only open corner store we can see and as to use their outlet to charge the phone he gives me 15 min and very promptly tells me to get out of the parking lot.

We were able to call for another Uber since finally, we had to correct the address to the greyhound. It is only 3 min away. The next 3 min were the longest 3 min of our entire lives at this point. Two vehicles pull up in the gas station parking lot with some very suspect people exiting the vehicle. Another truck pulls in and creeps very slowly by us. As he passed by we noticed the other 2 vehicles that had just pulled in had bullet holes in the doors and blood all over the side of the white car. I notice the address I had just given Uber was the address we had just come from and now I am freaking out on the inside and I do not have any idea what I am to do.

Finally, the Driver Arrives

We briskly hop into the Uber and I am pleading with the driver who speaks next to no English to just give me a moment to get the correct address in the app. He is saying only if it is close. I don’t know where we are and so I am just trying to get to where we need to be. It is now about 3:30 am and we are on our way to the correct Greyhound. We arrive and we find that IT IS CLOSED! Our thoughts are WHAT GREYHOUND CLOSES? This is not at all good. It is about 4 am and we are literally in the worst part of town and all that we can do is sit outside this gate praying we are not going to meet danger.

The Wait

As we were waiting every vehicle that passed us by slowed down and stared at us. Maybe we were the only white women and black men I am sure for miles and miles. We were approached by people asking us for drugs. A young man was dropped off across the street. He was greeted by another young man and they proceeded to play with some guns larger than themselves. We decided we would go on up to the McDonalds since it was now 5 am and they were opening. We stood in the parking lot charging our phones at the light pole right out front. Sheriffs and random cars pulled in and passed us by like it was normal. We finally had the battery to contact my God Parents and informed them of the situation and they hopped in the car and proceeded to travel 5 hours to retrieve us.

After waiting until 5:45 outside we were finally able to enter the Greyhound. We sat inside where we felt much safer. we waited until 9 am when my Godfather arrived. These few hours of our lives felt as though they were never-ending. Finally safe we set out on the last bit of our journey to our new home in Corpus Christi, TX. Needless to say, this was a rather boring trip for my Godfather. We were extremely exhausted and we could no longer keep our eyes open.
